What Conditions Can EMDR Help With??

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is a  psychotherapy treatment that has proved to work wonders for many of those who have struggled to see improvement through traditional methods. As opposed to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), this innovative method uses bilateral eye movements to allow better access to the memory network in the brain. This allows clients to quickly process past negative experiences, in order to change what they believe about themselves.

This therapy option utilizes some of the same techniques as exposure and CBT, but with the use of enhanced technology for faster results. The treatment can also help you gain a new perspective on past memories, aiding in the development of self-esteem and a positive view of the future.

This therapy was originally developed for PTSD and other trauma-related disorders. However, it has since been studied in the treatment of other common mental health issues including:

  • Substance abuse disorder
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Panic attacks and panic disorders
  • Chronic pain
  • Phobias
  • Depression
  • Self-esteem issues
  • Eating Disorders
